Initially funded by the Scottish Government’s Adapt & Thrive programme in 2021, the café is now run as a social not-for-profit enterprise by KPT Community Trading Ltd (a trading arm of KPT Development Trust).
Staffed by a mixture of paid staff and volunteers, community is very much at the heart of what we do – sourcing our ingredients locally (including produce from KPT DT’s community garden) and providing work experience for locals.

Meet Isla McKie (Age 20)
Isla is one of our more experienced and longstanding young people, having joined the cafe crew back in 2022 just after Covid. Her dedication to our community extends far beyond the cafe kitchen; Isla also volunteered on our Community Art Installation, where she helped sew our Climate Change “Ocean Commotion” and Arctic-themed bus stop decor for our KM Rally 2025. Showing just how powerful the cafe is as a stepping stone to incredible positive destinations; Isla is now progressing into her third year studying BA Fashion and Business at Glasgow Caledonian University! We wish Isla the very best with her studies.
Meet Bonnie Anderson (Age 19)
Bonnie has been a cornerstone of our Cafe Crew since 2021. Bonnie took her very first steps into the working world with us at age 14, and this year, she’s taking a massive step forward into her passion. She is starting her first year at Riverside College, Glasgow, enrolled in the Song Writing and Performing Musician Course. For Bonnie, the best part of working at the cafe has always been the incredible community spirit and the daily joy she gets from speaking to the locals.
Meet Yasmin Bain (Age 14)
Yasmin is our most recently recruited young person, who used her summer school holiday to begin her exciting journey into the tourism and hospitality industry. Heading into S4 at Wallace Hall Academy, Yasmin has been mainly working on Thursdays and Fridays over the summer. As she returns to school, she will become one of our regular weekenders, taking on our Saturday and Sunday shifts. We are particularly proud of Yasmin for her incredible community spirit; on Friday night, 7th August , she stepped in to rescue the team by volunteering to help Maureen when the cafe was short-staffed.
Meet Natasha Tollett
New friendly face front of house – welcoming Natasha to the Café Crew! While she might be new to the counter, Natasha is already a vital part of our family. In fact, she has been working hard behind the scenes since January. Up to now she has been quietly keeping everything spotless, working busily as our cleaner both here at the café and over at the KPT Development Trust office.
